  • Study Level: Postgraduate
  • Duration: 18 months

Explores the foundations of midwifery and cultural studies, along with complex care and midwifery therapeutics.

Course overview

The Graduate Diploma in Midwifery Practice prepares registered nurses for registration as a midwife in Australia. The course is offered online over eighteen months. During this time, students complete theoretical study and practical clinical placements within the WA maternity services to acquire experiences that enable them to demonstrate competence against the Midwifery Standards (2018) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. The ANMAC standards require completing at least ten continuity of care experiences with women and the clinical placement components. During the course, students will complete 720 hours by attending midwifery practice placements every semester of the program in one of ECU's partner hospitals. The School of Nursing and Midwifery Clinical Placement Team will organise clinical placements. Students must meet the relevant healthcare facility's employment requirements before clinical placement.

Commonwealth Supported Places

The Australian Government allocates a certain number of CSPS to the universities each year, which are then distributed to students based on merit.

If you're a Commonwealth Supported Student (CSS), you only need to pay some of your tuition fees. The student contribution amount is the balance once the government subsidy is applied. This means your costs are much lower.

Limited CSP spaces are offered to students enrolled in selected postgraduate courses.

Your student contribution amount is:

  • Calculated per unit you're enrolled in.
  • Depending on the study areas they relate to.
  • Reviewed and adjusted each year.

HECS-HELP loans are available to CSP students to pay the student contribution amount.

FEE-HELP loans are available to assist eligible full-fee-paying domestic students with the cost of a university course.
