The Graduate Certificate of Wound Care course will enable you to advance your knowledge and skills in wound care management, using evidence-based practice and problem-solving skills to improve your clinical practice and healing outcomes for individuals with wounds. Graduates from the Graduate Certificate of Wound Care will receive 24 credit points guaranteed credit on admission to Master of Wound Care or Graduate Diploma of Wound Care.

What you will study

To qualify for the award of Graduate Certificate of Wound Care, students must fulfil a total of 24 credit points. All units are valued at six credit points each.

Foundation studies

  • Principles of wound healing
  • Wound assessment
  • Wound management principles
  • Acute and chronic wounds

Entry requirements

An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in pharmacy, podiatry, medicine, nursing, or occupational therapy.

  • At least two years of relevant clinical experience.
  • Professional registration.

OR

Division 1 Registered Nurse with two years of relevant work clinical experience.

OR

Registration with Ahpra as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner and at least three years of relevant work experience. Relevant work experience: experience in providing primary health care across primary, secondary and tertiary health care settings.

English language requirements

Level D

  • IELTS (Academic): 7.0 Overall score, with minimum band scores: Listening 7.0, Reading 7.0, Writing 7.0 and Speaking 7.0.
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic): 65 Overall scores, with minimum scores: Listening 65, Reading 65, Speaking 65 and Writing 65.
  • TOEFL Internet-based test: 98 Overall score, with minimum scores: Reading 24, Listening 24, Speaking 23 and Writing 27.
  • Equivalent approved English test.

To complete your course, you are required to demonstrate that you meet fitness for practice expectations.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Upon successful completion of this course, it is expected that you will be able to:

  • Critically analyse, evaluate and synthesise evidence-based knowledge that informs the development of safe, effective and ethical wound care practices.
  • Effectively assess, plan and manage those individuals at risk of developing wounds or requiring wound care.
  • Effectively disseminate specialised wound care knowledge, which promotes collaboration and enhances positive clinical outcomes.
  • Evaluate the impact of wound care delivery on the health outcomes of those with wounds.
