Outcomes

Learning outcomes

The Master of Midwifery will give you the skills and knowledge to step into various advanced roles in midwifery. The flexible curriculum allows you to study areas which will inform and improve your midwifery practice, learning and research capabilities.

During your studies, you will choose various elective courses and one of two pathways: a clinical pathway or a research pathway.

  • By undertaking the clinical pathway, you will complete a clinical project. This project enables you to negotiate and undertake a project for a specific issue you’re interested in that is relevant to your current practice role.
  • By undertaking the research pathway, you will complete a minor thesis. This thesis work enables you to investigate a small midwifery research project under the guidance of your supervisors and contribute advanced research to your field.

Career outcomes

Expanding upon your experience as a midwife, I believe that graduates are qualified to step into advanced practice and senior leadership roles across various hospital, community and governance settings. You'll be confident enough to act as a leader in the workplace, help improve healthcare services through experience and advanced practice and influence how the midwifery workforce operates in Australia.

You can apply your skills to areas including:

  • Leadership and Management
  • Healthcare Policy and Governance
  • Research
  • Education

Fees and CSP

Estimated total fee in 2025: From $8,112.25 (Commonwealth Supported Place)

The estimated total fee is calculated based on a study load of 54 units.

Student fees may vary depending on:

  • The number of units studied per term.
  • The choice of major or specialisation.
  • Choice of units.
  • Credit from previous study or work experience.
  • Eligibility for government-funded loans.

Student fees shown are subject to change. Contact the university directly to confirm.

Commonwealth Supported Places

The Australian Government allocates a certain number of CSPs to the universities each year, which are then distributed to students based on merit.

If you're a Commonwealth Supported Student (CSS), you only need to pay some of your tuition fees. The student contribution amount is the balance once the government subsidy is applied. This means your costs are much lower.

Limited CSP spaces are offered to students enrolled in selected postgraduate courses.

Your student contribution amount is:

  • Calculated per unit you're enrolled in.
  • Depending on the study areas they relate to.
  • Reviewed and adjusted each year.

HECS-HELP loans are available to CSP students to pay the student contribution amount.
