Course overview

Build a rewarding career by helping individuals overcome barriers that impact their participation in life.

Occupational Therapists (OTs) support people of all ages in improving their quality of life and overcoming challenges that affect their daily activities. This 2.5-year program focuses on the practice of occupational therapy, emphasising the application of prior skills and knowledge to enhance OT effectiveness and foster advanced adult learning skills for ongoing professional development.

The program is designed to build on your previous studies, incorporating the principles of occupational therapy practice. You will develop the interdisciplinary knowledge and professional skills needed to work as an OT. The curriculum includes a variety of research-focused courses and advanced training in clinical reasoning and health research, enhancing your understanding of the role of evidence in occupational therapy practice.

Throughout the program, you will complete over 1,000 hours of supervised clinical placements at UQ’s Occupational Therapy Clinics, located on the St Lucia campus, as well as in hospitals, schools and other healthcare organisations.

The Master of Occupational Therapy Studies is accredited by the Occupational Therapy Council of Australia Ltd (OTC) and approved by the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (OTBA). Graduates will be eligible to apply for registration as an occupational therapist with the OTBA. The program is also recognised by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.
