The Emergency Nursing specialisation focuses on the rapid assessment, stabilisation and treatment of patients with acute illnesses or injuries in emergency or crisis situations.

What you will study
To earn the Master of Advanced Nursing (Emergency Nursing), students must complete 150 credit points. Each unit is valued at 12.5 credit points unless otherwise indicated.
Core units
Complete the following:
- Interpreting Patient Deterioration
- Foundations of Emergency Nursing Practice
- Clinical Perspectives of Emergency Nursing Practice
- Triage and Complex Management of the Emergency and Trauma Patient
Entry requirements
Applicants are required to have:
- Completed a graduate diploma or equivalent with a credit grade average in the same specialisation.
- Practised as a registered nurse for at least six (6) months full-time equivalence since graduation from a university program, prior to the start of the course in the same specialisation.
Also, applicants must provide:
- Evidence of AHPRA registration as a Division 1 registered nurse with no restrictions or conditions.
- A personal statement, CV or resume which states the area in which the applicant works as an RN and for the length of time.
- Evidence of confirmation of employment.
Midwives must have a nursing qualification to be eligible to apply. The course is not available to midwives without a nursing qualification identified in their curriculum vitae.
Students must be working in an Emergency Department.
Recognition of Prior Learning

A student’s fee may vary depending on:

- Eligibility for government-funded loans.
Commonwealth Supported Places
The Australian Government allocates a certain number of CSPs to the universities each year, which are then distributed to students based on merit.
If you're a Commonwealth Supported Student (CSS), you only need to pay some of your tuition fees. The student contribution amount is the balance once the government subsidy is applied. This means your costs are much lower.
Limited CSP spaces are offered to students enrolled in selected postgraduate courses.
Your student contribution amount is:
- Calculated per unit you're enrolled in.
- Depending on the study areas they relate to.
- Reviewed and adjusted each year.
HECS-HELP loans are available to CSP students to pay the student contribution amount.
FEE-HELP loans are available to assist eligible full-fee-paying domestic students with the cost of a university course.
