Course overview
The Victoria University Online Graduate Certificate in Mental Health develops foundational knowledge for working with people experiencing mental ill-health. The course is designed for allied health, welfare and social care professionals and explores how mental health can affect individuals, families and communities.
Students examine recovery-oriented mental health practice, biopsychosocial and cultural perspectives and approaches to supporting people with complex mental health needs. The course also develops understanding of ethical practice, care coordination and person-centred therapeutic relationships.
Study includes trauma-informed care, mental health promotion and illness prevention, evidence-based practice and collaboration across mental health services. Students consider the experiences of diverse communities and how culturally responsive approaches can support recovery and wellbeing.
The Graduate Certificate comprises four units and is delivered fully online through VU Online. Students study one unit at a time over seven-week study periods, with a minimum part-time duration of eight months. Eligible graduates can also continue into the Master of Mental Health.

This program has a limited quota of Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP). The indicative CSP price is calculated based on first year fees for EFT. The actual fee may vary if there are choices in electives or majors.

What you will study
To earn the Graduate Certificate in Mental Health, students must complete the following four core units:

Entry requirements
Applicants must have one of the following:
- Completed an AQF Level 7 Bachelor's degree in a cognate discipline such as Health Science, Social Work, Psychology, Medicine, Counselling, Criminal Justice, Youth Work or Education.
- Completed an AQF Level 7 Bachelor's in any discipline and at least 2 years of approved work experience.
