Course overview
Designed for registered nurses seeking specialist capability in digital healthcare, this course examines how nursing knowledge, information systems and leadership can work together to improve care delivery. It focuses on the nurse’s role in implementing and using technology effectively within clinical environments.
You will explore nursing informatics, digital health technologies, clinical data, interoperability and the alignment of information systems with nursing workflows and patient needs. Study also covers privacy, confidentiality and information security, alongside leadership approaches for managing change, strengthening digital literacy and leading quality and safety improvements.
Delivered 100% online through VU’s Block Model, the course involves one seven-week unit at a time and can be completed in eight months of part-time study. It is designed for nurses with current AHPRA registration, with an alternative entry pathway available to eligible registered nurses who do not hold a bachelor degree. Graduates can apply to enter the Master of Nursing with credit.

Entry requirements
To apply for the online Graduate Certificate in Nursing Informatics Leadership, you are required to have:
- Completed an AQF Level 7 Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent qualification; AND
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA); OR
- Applicants without an AQF 7 bachelor's degree in nursing (or equivalent qualification) who hold current registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Australian Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA) and one year of full-time (or part-time equivalent) clinical work experience will be considered for the Graduate Certificate in Nursing Informatics Leadership.
