Aims to take nurses who wish to specialise in the area to be competent in all aspects of wound, ostomy and continence nursing practice.

Course overview

Specifically, the Master of Advanced Practice aims to develop graduates who possess a combination of knowledge and research skills applicable to the industry. This course is designed to allow specialisation in various disciplines that are suitable for those who wish to extend their existing knowledge of a discipline. Students will develop superior professional knowledge and in-demand research skills for a career in specialised clinical practice.

The Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Practice Specialisation will focus on the prevention and management of patients with acute or chronic wounds; patients with an ostomy (gastro-intestinal or genito-urinary diversion for feeding or drainage of effluent, or a tracheostomy for respiratory function), and patients with urinary or faecal incontinence. Students will have the opportunity to combine learning from the applied clinical sciences to the practice context.

Entry requirements

  • Applicants for the Master of Advanced Practice Degree (Coursework) are required to meet university academic and English language standards.
  • Applicants will require a bachelor degree, bachelor honours degree, graduate certificate or graduate diploma in their related field.
  • Applicants must also hold three (3) years of experience in their related field post-bachelor degree.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an individual basis. Credit reduces the amount of learning required to complete the course and may be granted for formal education qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of study and informal learning through work experiences. Indicative fee in 2024: $26,605 (domestic full-fee paying place)

The indicative fee is based on a full-time study load of 200 credits or seven units.
