Course overview
This course is designed to provide you with the necessary education and training for a critical care paramedic role as well as prepare you for leadership, education and research positions. The course fosters the integration of reflection, professionalism, leadership, teamwork, interpersonal communication and patient-focused care at an advanced level into all areas of clinical practice. The course is designed to provide you with the skills and training to successfully complete a critical care internship and provide the highest level of paramedic care for cardiac, respiratory, medical, trauma, paediatric and obstetric patients.
You'll also learn and demonstrate advanced techniques and treatment regimes, enabling you to provide the highest level of out-of-hospital care for your specialist area of paramedic practice. You'll have the opportunity to choose between a coursework or research pathway.

What you will study
The Master of Critical Care Paramedicine is structured into two parts: Part A. Clinical Units and Part B. Advanced application Units.
Part A. Clinical Units
You must complete the following units
- Foundations of Advanced Paramedic Practice (12 credit points)
- Critical Care Management of Cardiac Emergencies
- Critical Care Management of Respiratory and Airway Emergencies (12 credit points)
- Critical Care Management of Trauma
- Advanced Care Paramedic Management of Paediatric and Obstetric Patients
- Critical Care Management of Medical Emergencies
Part B. Advanced application Units
You must complete the following units and EITHER the Coursework option OR the Research option.
- Coursework pathway (24 Credit points)
- Research pathway (24 Credit points)
Entry requirements
Qualifications
- A Bachelor of Paramedicine (or equivalent) with at least a pass (50%) average or qualifications and experience approved by the faculty.
- Registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or equivalent accredited professional registration body.
- A minimum of two years of full-time equivalent relevant clinical experience in paramedic practice at the time of commencement of the course.
English requirements
- Applicants must also meet the English language requirements.
