Course overview
The Master of Health Professions Education is suitable for a broad range of health professionals who are, or will be, engaged in the teaching, assessment, evaluation, curriculum design, mentoring and supervision of health professionals in a range of clinical and other contexts.
It qualifies individuals to apply principles and theories that inform educational practice in a range of clinical and other relevant contexts, to undertake professional and highly skilled work and as educators in their health professions. Taught by leaders in health professions education, with interactive learning opportunities, you’ll develop the professional skills to effectively teach and supervise in both clinical and non-clinical environments. This practice-based qualification builds on the existing M4009 Graduate Certificate of Health Professions Education. Graduates of the existing M4009 course will be granted 24CP entry into the Master of Health Professions Education.

What you will study
This course consists of 72 credit points structured as below:
Part A. Core Studies
You must complete the following:
- HPE5100
- Assessment in health professions education short course with assessment (six credit points)
- Six credit points from Part C, the approved elective units and list of short courses with assessment
- Foundations of Health Professions Education (12 credit points)
Part B. Applied Studies
You must complete either a Coursework pathway or Research pathway:
Coursework Pathway
- Health Professions and Stimulation Education in Practice (12 credit points)
Research Pathway
- Advanced Health Practice Research Project (12 credit points)
Part C. Specified Elective Studies
You must complete 24 credit points from the approved elective units and list of short courses with assessment below, not already completed in Part A and B:
- Improving Indigenous Equity in Professional Practice (six credit points)
- Clinical Leadership and Management (six credit points)
Entry requirements
Entry level 1: 72 points to complete – Duration: Three years part-time.
- An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any health-related qualification with at least a pass (50%) average
- An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with a minimum of two years equivalent full-time work experience in a health-related profession
Entry level 2: 48 points to complete – Duration: Two years part-time.
- An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any health-related qualification with at least a pass (50%) average with a minimum of two years equivalent full-time work experience in a health-related profession.
- An Australian bachelor's honours degree (or equivalent) in any health-related qualification with at least a pass (50%) average.
- An Australian graduate certificate (or equivalent) in any health-related qualification with a minimum of two years equivalent full-time work experience in a health-related profession.
- An Australian graduate diploma or master’s degree (or equivalent) in any health-related qualification.

Fees and FEE-HELP
Average 2026 first-year fee: $37,600 (domestic full-fee paying place).
All costs are calculated using current rates and are based on a study load of 24 credit points (normally four units) per semester or 48 credit points (normally eight units) per year.
A student’s annual fee may vary in accordance with:
- The number of units studied per term.
- The choice of major or specialisation.
- Choice of units.
- Credit from previous study or work experience.
- Eligibility for government-funded loans.
