Graduate Certificate in Midwifery (Child and Family Health)

What you will study

To earn the Graduate Certificate in Midwifery (Child and Family Health), students must complete 50 credit points or four units, each worth 12.5 credit points.

• Foundations of Child and Family Health
• Theoretical Aspects of Child and Family Health

Note: Compulsory Placement is required for Child and Family Health Specialisation. Please also note that placements are only possible for registered midwives in the following geographical areas: Tasmania and New South Wales.

Entry requirements

• Applicants must have graduated from a Bachelor of Midwifery program and practised as a registered midwife for at least six (6) months since graduation prior to the start of the course.
• Applicants must provide evidence of Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) registration as a Division 1 registered midwife with no restrictions or conditions.

Safety in Practice Requirements for Child and Family Health

This course includes compulsory work placements. All students must meet the College of Health and Medicine’s Safety in Practice Requirements by the census date of the first semester of the course. The safety in practice requirements are to be completed separately from the course admission application.

Recognition of Prior Learning

This course enhances your capabilities as a specialist midwife, preparing you for advanced clinical roles, leadership opportunities and future postgraduate study. A student’s fee may vary depending on:

Commonwealth Supported Places

The Australian Government allocates a certain number of CSPs to the universities each year, which are then distributed to students based on merit.

If you're a Commonwealth Supported Student (CSS), you only need to pay some of your tuition fees. The student contribution amount is the balance once the government subsidy is applied. This means your costs are much lower.

Limited CSP spaces are offered to students enrolled in selected postgraduate courses.

Your student contribution amount is:

• Calculated per unit you're enrolled in.
• Depending on the study areas they relate to.
• Reviewed and adjusted each year.

HECS-HELP loans are available to CSP students to pay the student contribution amount.

FEE-HELP loans are available to assist eligible full-fee-paying domestic students with the cost of a university course.
