Course overview
The Master of Advanced Nursing is designed for registered nurses seeking to develop advanced clinical, leadership and evidence-based practice capabilities. The course focuses on improving person-centred care and preparing nurses to lead practice improvement across a range of healthcare settings.
Students develop skills in advanced professional practice, pathophysiology, physical assessment and diagnostic reasoning, research, leadership, safety and quality improvement. The Critical Care major further develops knowledge of critical care concepts and complex patient data to support clinical decision-making and person-centred care in critical care settings.
The course is delivered 100% online and part-time, comprising 12 subjects and 72 credit points. UTS also provides articulation pathways from several related Graduate Certificates and an exit pathway through the Graduate Diploma in Advanced Nursing.

Entry requirements
Applicants must have the following:
- Completed an Australian bachelor's degree or higher qualification, or overseas equivalent, in nursing.
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse in Australia with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), or international equivalent.
- Current employment as a Registered Nurse or a letter of offer to commence employment as a Registered Nurse by the commencement of studies.
- A minimum of one year full-time (1,800+ hours), or equivalent part-time, post-registration clinical experience in nursing.
Supporting documentation to be submitted with the application
For applicants who need to demonstrate professional work experience:
- Proof of Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) registration or international equivalent.
- Curriculum Vitae (CV) and a Statement of Service in one of the following formats:
- A Statement of Service provided by the employer.
- A completed UTS Statement of Service signed by the employer.
Applicants who do not meet the criteria above should consider applying for the Graduate Certificate in Advanced Nursing.
Eligibility for admission does not guarantee an offer of a place.
English language requirements
The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: Academic IELTS: 7.0 overall with a minimum score of 7.0 in each subset; or TOEFL: internet-based: 94 overall, reading 24, listening 24, speaking 23, writing 27; or PTE: 65–72 overall with a minimum score of 65 in each subset.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Your previous studies can be credited for online postgraduate studies, provided they meet the relevant course requirements.
